Hung's works combine painstaking realism with pure fantasy, as if the artist can see the world that others see and then look through it, in to the world of spirits and delirium. In one painting, a young, aristocratic woman stares seriously from the canvas, while overhead betel-nuts and bowls fly through the air, hinting at the instability in our souls.
Born in 1953, Hung began to paint as a young child. "It was an uncertain existence", he says. "My paintings are as uncertain and as wavering as my life. Nowhere and at no time is life stable".
